This coming 17th July marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Rome Statute that established the International Criminal Court and has now come to be known as ‘International Justice Day’. To commemorate the occasion, the Human Rights Committee of the Bar Council will be hosting a debate on the same day at 7 pm at the Bar Council Auditorium, No. 13, 15 & 17, Leboh Pasar Besar, Kuala Lumpur (near Dataran Merdeka). This event is open to the public who are encouraged to attend and is free.
Universiti Teknologi MARA and Universiti Malaya are expected to send their debating teams (comprising 3 speakers each) to participate in the event, which will be using the Asian debating format. The topic for debate will involve issues relating to the Rome Statute and the International Criminal Court and will only be announced 30 minutes before the debate commences.
