Confessions of a BDSM writer

Novella, The “Wilderness” Featured on BFM

I was interviewed on BFM 89.9 by Sharaad Kuttan last Saturday on my novella titled Wilderness.

Check out the podcast by clicking here.

In the interview, I talk about the books I read during my childhood, how I won a trip to Bangi (not Bali) as first prize in a writing competition when I was a kid, and how violence is interspersed with love and sex.

Oh, and you get to hear excerpts of Wilderness read in a sexy, sultry voice too (not mine, I must confess).

Below is a synopsis of Wilderness:

Devastated by the death of her mother, Charlene Koh starts questioning her faith in God. Timothy Liew, an architect, tries to help her resolve her grief through religion. He swears commitment, but insists on keeping their relationship pure before marriage.

When mysterious banker Patrick Khoo appears one rainy night, Charlene’s repressed sexuality threatens to surface. She begins to find the answers that she has been desperately looking for through his dark impulses. The whisper of a scarf wrapped around her eyes, intertwined with Bach’s saturnine music, captivates and imprisons Charlene.

Sensual and compelling, Wilderness is a story of love, lust and a young woman’s struggle for independence.

I want to save the world. It would be great if the newspapers were full of the good things that people do instead of the usual wars and rapes and murders. I love writing - whether it's fiction, or research papers or reporting facts. I have published two short stories; one of which is called "City of Flesh" in an anthology titled "Urban Odysseys: KL Stories" under my pseudonym RK Boo. It's available in MPH bookstores. I've also published a preliminary qualitative study titled "Work Experiences of People with Mental Illness in Malaysia".
