Day 8: Final Countdown

There is the mild ache from walking all afternoon in a huge shopping mall with heels, which I usually give myself a mental kick for taking too long to decide on what I want and for wearing heels. There is the severe throbbing ache from hiking Mount Kinabalu which had led me to hate hiking ever since, and there is the ache from running about campaigning for a by-election. I would do it all over again.

The pressure increases on our side, an indication of that would be Dato’ Seri Anwar had dared the Prime Minister to a debate tonight regarding the APCO issue. Freshly printed banners inviting our not-so-loved Prime Minister to the stadium at Kuala Kubu Bahru, at 8.30p.m. are also going to be up very soon. By the way, all of you reading this are invited (Emphasis by LB). The drive is not too far away and I can show which Chinese restaurant I went to that does the amazing tasting ribs.

I can vouch for at least my branch that PKR is working as much as we can. I am also pretty sure now that we conduct way more ceramahs than Barisan does and also that we do more campaigning than they do. However, their cyber troopers do a very good job in annoying people. And when I was driving home at 2.30a.m. I saw that some members were still putting up banners under a heavy drizzle!

A major ceramah was held yesterday night. The big guns scheduled to appear were DSAI, Datuk Zaid, YAB Tok Guru Nik Aziz and YB Azmin to address a predicted estimate of 3,000 people. The crowd peaked at an estimate of 5,000 people. Keep in mind that this was held at Kampung Sungei Buaya, a very secluded housing area. You have to drive through a forest to get there. The organisers played a video of a Parliamentary debate half an hour before the event and already more than 300 people were there. Gradually, the numbers increased. The night market outside made the congestion worse.

When DSAI showed up, they played the “final countdown” like they do every time. I believe that PKR is by far the corniest political party amongst all in Malaysia. The symbol of the curves on the flag represents DSAI’s black eye during detention in 1998! Datuk Zaid too, received very warm cheers from the crowd when he arrived. Almost everyone on the stage and around the stage shook his hands when he arrived.

A smaller ceramah was held at Batang Kali by Barisan and I heard that our home minister was supposed to attend that one. Nonetheless, I have no news as to how it went. I have also got news that at another event organized by MIC at Bukit Sentosa, 500 people showed up and 200 signed up for MIC membership.

The feedback I get from my own party members are mixed. Some are incredibly confident and some are not. The wait has now been reduced from days to hours now. I wait with bated breath for this Sunday, 11.00p.m.
